Ways To Incorporate Thinking Skills And Intellectual Abilities In Children
Learning to think critically may be one
of the most essential skills that need to be incorporated in today's children for
a successful future. Our primary goals as a parent and teacher is directed at
keeping children healthy and safe, teaching cognitive skills such as shape and
color recognition, encouraging prosocial behavior, and introducing basic
literacy and numeration skills. We devote all the time to these areas, and
there’s less opportunity to think about the importance of nurturing children's
creative abilities.
Creative power increases children’s desire
to learn and supports intellectual development and since every student’s
cognitive ability is different, you can always improve upon their mental
capabilities in their fundamental years.
Through incorporating executive
functions, better known as brain functions, basic capabilities of planning,
time management and memory-oriented details you can enhance these executive
functions, that can influencing their perceived excellence, not only at a
particular stage, but it will be set the tone for their future successes.
In today’s rapidly changing world,
children need to be critical thinkers, who can make sense of information,
compare, contrast, analyze, make inferences, and generate higher order thinking
skills. Here are some ways to incorporate thinking skills and intellectual
abilities in Children:
·
Increasing Concentration
Get yourself in a few simple activities
for improving memory and concentration level. Adapt an activity matching the
level of the child. For older children, you can perform an activity by keeping
a bunch of different objects and ask him/her to name them from sheer memory.
Having them repeat words or numbers loudly will help in enhancing their
auditory memory.
·
Enough Sleep
No matter what age your child is, sleep
is essential for everyone, it plays a vital role in recharging the brain
functions. According to a lot of studies it has been proved that sleeping in
the afternoon for almost an hour can radically boost cognitive learning
capabilities. While we are resting, our brain does not receive any new
information, so it resorts to ‘saving’ the information it was exposed to
throughout the day. Children require about 10 to 12 hours maximum sleep
everyday whereas as teenagers might need 8 to 10 hours of maximum sleep
everyday.
·
Encourage Children to think in new and different way
Allow your children to think
differently; through this you're helping them hone their creative problem
solving skills. You can engage them into some questions like, "What are
the some other ideas that we can try?" or encourage them to generate
options by saying, "We can think of all the other possible ways and solutions."
·
Have an Open-Door Communication Policy
As parents or teacher we should have an
open-door policy when it comes to communicating with children. If the children
are quite young then we should always encourage them to speak up. Ask them questions
and give them enough time and attention when they struggle to form sentences to
ask for something. Through this we can help them boost their
self-confidence and their trust when they find it easier to confide in
their parents.
Instead of focusing on finding the facts and
deciding when to question the children, education has only become a
transmission of facts or procedures. Undeniably, facts are important but are
also subject to change. Hence, thinking and intellectual skills should be
encouraged in each child at any age there in. In the coming decade we will have
more complex problems and to develop problem-solving skills, thinking and intellectual
skills are required to
deal with real-world problems.
Thinking and intellectual skills will
be the most valuable and crucial for any career options. In this rapidly
changing world technology and workplace dynamics, flexible or creative thinking
and intellectual skills are the only way that help to process, analyze and
combine all sources of information to get the most suitable solution and
ability to modify. In this situation, educators’ efforts are most crucial and
should be in the direction of developing these skills among their students
because pronounced education seems incomplete without the possession of these
skills. TSRCC is amongst the best coaching institute in Delhi relying
more on active learning process rather than opting for passive learning
activities. They incorporate learning methods that involve engaging and
challenging children’s capacity for thinking and learning using real-life and
imaginary situations.
