Various aspects and information about the Measured Volume set (M.V Set)
As we all know that infusion
therapy is being carried out using an Intravenous set, there are various types
of Infusion sets available for Intravenous therapy and blood transfusion
therapy. Now, these therapies include the transfer of fluids or blood directly
to the vein of the patient.
The selection of the intravenous infusion sets completely depends upon the
therapy or treatment the doctor is giving to the patient. It has been seen that
in some cases where the exact volume and the quantity have to be measured
before giving that to the patient a Measured Volume Set is used or M.V Set.
We can all understand from the word itself that it means measured in the exact
quantity. Therefore, it is used when the doctor and the nursing staff is very
closely monitoring the amount of fluid being given to the patients.
The Measured Volume Set or an M.V set consists of a spike for easy penetration
in fluid bags or blood bags and they have markings between 100 ml to 150 ml
that helps in calculating the exact amount of fluid.
Further, it also consists of an air
inlet that is present with a bacterial filter and an injection port(for
injecting other medications during the therapy). To filter the unwanted
particles and obstacles it also has a filter inside the drip chamber.
From the above information, we can say that the measured volume set is a bit
different from a normal infusion set. But, it also consists of the same roller
clamp which is used to control the regulation and speed of the fluid or blood
during transfusion therapy.
Further, the drip chamber is transparent cylindrical and it is also calibrated
for an easy fluid adjustment and drop count that helps in the smooth process of
fluid or blood transfusion.
From all the above statements we can say
that the measuring volume set has proven out to be fast and accurate for the
intravenous transfusion process.
