My Favourite Travel Apps
Definitely to travel around the world is fun and entertaining, well maybe not for those people whose work require from them to do it on regular basis, being apart from friends and family in most of the time. No matter the case, there are some apps that everyone holding a smart-phone is recommended to have. If you make you travel planing correctly and on time, your mind will be freed from any apprehensions.
What is essential for the safety is to have a full guide and relevant tips on the prerequisites. For example, that the phones had become almost a mandatory to our lives, thus we take them always when we travel. Many people utilize their phones as an personal organizer. For travel people I present some of the most useful travel apps that I have encountered.
Stay organized
The program can organize all of your previous trip details gathering the info in one master itinerary, it works great because it can organize even if you made any arrangements from multiple websites. Hotel reservations, plane tickets, car rentals and many more, just name it – it's there. Everything that you want to book and organized is done only with the help of this app. Its compatible with all mobile OS and most importantly its is free-ware.
The master of all - Skype
For some middle class smart-phone this app could be heavy to run on. For example I had some issues using Skype calls on my HTC wildfire. Despite that if you want to use it on travels, you would need a global sim card for data roaming. Because, there is no single mobile carriers that would offer you data exchange while on roaming for reasonable price. I recommend you to use this app only when you find a Wi-Fi spot ready for use, as even its messaging use to much of traffic exchange. Made for all OS and as everybody knows it for free.
Viber – the better choice
Same as Skype, the Viber app is more light and performs better. It is an app with the capabilities of Skype and the performing of Whatsapp. Personally when I found this one, I ditched Skype and Whatsapp. It is easier to use, it performs better on lower class smart-phones and can generate voice transfer with acceptable quality and latency even through mobile internet. Besides, I find that most of my friends in the contact list use it as well. During my travels, with the use of global sim card for data roaming, this app performed great and consumes less data traffic when sending and receiving text messages. The application is available for all phone platforms and free for use.
Foodspotting
Sometimes it is very annoying and frustrating when you can not find anything good to eat mostly when travelling. This app will show you and guide you to the nearest point of the best foods close to your destination. It is compatible with windows mobile, iOS and Android. Its for free use.
Tipulator – split the tab
In different countries different rules apply for tips. The tipping vary from country to country, having this app for calculating the tips would make your life way much easier. You will avoid any kind of social embarrassment originating from your lack of knowledge. Compatible only with iPhone for the price of 1 dollar.
A sightseeing partner - the Google Goggles
Frankly, this apps still amaze me what it is capable of. Have you ever going elsewhere on a distant journey and you wondered what kind of building you are looking at? Or what about some famous land mark that you wish to know more about. Just run the app point your phone camera, and shortly after you shall be returned a relevant Wikipedia articles and info regarding what you have pointed. It is compatible with Android and iOS based devices. Free-ware application.
In order to utilize all these apps while you are travelling one thing you must consider and think in details - the mobile internet connectivity. Using these apps through your local SIM card of your home mobile provider, would bring you a devastating bill for data roaming. That is why I strongly recommend to find a reliable provider to purchase global SIM card for mobile roaming including data traffic use.
