Manufacturing carpets and rugs for mass use, logically suggested, that the time of creating a cleaning machine for carpets was not so far away. Despite the role of industry nowadays, carpets and rugs has been used since the beginning of human history.

It was one of the first items that man put in regular use. In the year of 1860, during spring time of June, Daniel Hess created and mostly invent the first carpet cleaning machine. He called it carpet sweeper, and its basic functioning was manual using bellows. In fact this first carpet sweeper (few years later was already known as vacuum cleaner) was designed to utilize a rotating brush during the cleaning process. Later models has been designed with an bellow mechanisms on the very top of the body sweeper, thus for a person was easily to generate suction for the dust  and dirt.

Another type of vacuum hoover was the so-called "pneumatic carpet renovator". This type of cleaning machinery for carpets was invented by John Thurman mostly wanted to make something to help his wife. Later, he invented the first carpet cleaning machine powered by gasoline. Basically his invention had its own built-in central cleaning system using compressed air, however its design was never meant to collect dust.

In 1901 the strongest proclaim for inventing the first motorized cleaner went to Hubert Cecil Booth. As you can see, the home land of this modern invention is England.  However, there was some competition, and soon  after 1901 a guy named James Sprangler has in fact created and designed the first practical and portable vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately because of the lack of funding, he sold his patent to Henry Hoover. He redesigned the machine with casters, steel casing and few additional attachments. By putting such kind of innovation, logically these machines took his name, it is why some people are referring to vacuum  cleaners as hoovers.

Soon after, this invention became a blessing for many housewives, and now all over the world. For the last decade the vacuum cleaners was capable only to suck out dust and dirt, but with the progress on technological scale, the manufacturers has been able to design and put into use hoovers with the feature of wet-cleaning, machines that can utilize the use of steam and thus disinfect and kill germs quite well on carpets, rugs and all sorts of soft fabrics.

Too much of carpet use, was leading to the need of people to maintain cleanliness of the carpets and rugs. During the growth of interest to these machines, few manufacturers was realizing that the same would happen with the businesses. Social facilities, office buildings and corporations would need maintenance and cleaning, for the commercial carpeting and floors. Taking its course, the commercial cleaning machines for carpeting and floors has became a fact.

Up to now, for me there are currently seven main types of these cleaners:

- The upright vacuum cleaning machine
- The vacuum cleaner with canister
- The back pack type of vacuum cleaner
- Built-in vacuum cleaner
- A robotic vacuum cleaning machine
- The hand-held cleaner
- And finally, the wet vacuum cleaner

The specification of all these machines are different, thus their use and purposes are with different significance. An important development that I want to take into notice, is the creation of the cyclone carpet cleaner. Unlike the above mentioned and described vacuum cleaners, this type suck out and store the dust and dirt in a big cylinder type of container.

It uses a central air force system and few filters in its compartment. The filters are meant to filtrate the dirt and dust into few stages, in order to the air to be sucked up into the very cylinder container and then the cleaner could be cleaned and re-released in the air via the central outlet.

There is not much to say about the robotic cleaners, as they are still so ineffective, their only purpose is for occasional use for not very dirty floors and only for carpets that have smoother pile that this robotic cleaner can manoeuvre.

At the end we all find ourselves using vacuum cleaner from one or another type, but for one to get full in depth cleaning of the rugs and carpets, one should hire a team of professional cleaners equipped with most modern vacuum cleaning machines. And you shall see how much big is the difference of using domestic vacuum cleaner and commercial model of it.
