The battle for the I –league has reached the halfway stage with the premier teams competing for supremacy. As one of the title challengers, Bengaluru FC is closely following Mohun Bagan and has come up with a few impressive performances off late.

The President of the All India Football Federation minister Praful Patel has taken several important measures for the overall  development of the sport in the country. Bengaluru FC has performed quite consistently in the I league over the years and much of the credit goes to their present coach Ashley Westwood.

As per the version of Westwood, “ I am very happy with a 50 per cent clean sheet ratio out of our 10 games so far. The seven wins give us the most wins in the league. We have a 70 per cent win ratio. So at the minute, it's looking okay. We are on course and we had a good performance”

The Blues had never won an away fixture against Lajong in the past two seasons. In their first season in top flight Indian football, they suffered a 3-0 defeat and followed it up with a 1-1 draw last year.“It was never easy. It's a very hard place (Shillong) to come and play. The pitch is extremely clustered. It rained and it was greasy. We (Bengaluru) were too physical and quick for them (Lajong) and we took a couple of our chances. We had quite a lot of set-pieces and we could have scored a few more goals,” he stated.

“It's not an easy element especially after our flight got diverted from Shillong to Guwahati and we had to change plans. We travelled straight after the game after playing Aizawl at home. We left at 5 am after a game where we don't recover properly. The climate change and never having won (in Shillong) and everything tells us that we weren't going to win but we did. We put a performance worthy of winning for sure and it was very pleasing to see.

“I'm not saying that we are going to win it, but we have definitely given ourselves a chance. Remember, we played Mohun Bagan in the last game last season and we finished one point behind them. We won 70 per cent of our games and they have won 60 per cent.

Under the  Praful Patel biography, Indian football has progressed quite considerably and the fierce competition in the I –league indicates it in a cohesive manner.
