Summer is coming and it's the time for your regular summer renovations. This is the time when we get our vacations, and instead of spending them on vacations, lying on the beach, we try to renovate our homes, so we can prepare it for the winter or just to make some long lasting remodeling, that will make our house look better. But we live in hard times, where not everyone can afford expensive furniture, Persian rugs and other fancy things for decorating. What options do we have to make our homes look beautiful, but not spend that much money?

How to renovate your home on a budget? That's a huge topic, with many ideas, and many designers will give you different opinion. I'll give you some good and simple ideas, that I hope you will like. But don't look only at one place. Collect as many ideas as possible, because you will be the one, living with your new furniture.

Let's start with the Budget

Figure out how much money you can spend for this renovation. Then create some priorities. Does the bathroom need more attention than your living room? What is the most necessary thing right now for your home? Is it a new wardrobe, a new sofa, new table? Or you can concentrate all your efforts only on one room, next year will be the next.

The next step is the furniture hunting.

They say “One man's trash is another man's treasure”. It's true in a way, but we will not look exactly for trash. Some people decided to sell their old couch, or their table, it might be a little bit older, but it a great condition, and in the perfect style for your living room. It's not necessary to be that old, even. We live in the 21st century, so online shops are a very good idea to look. Websites like eBay offer different kind of auctions, for everything. You can buy furniture, bathroom appliances, you name it. Star there. You might be surprised at the cheap prices they are offering. Oh, and some sites offer free delivery for some regions.

Yard sales, flea markets, live auctions. Those are places, where you can find pretty decent furniture, that is on the right price. You can find some Victorian wardrobes and tables, some interesting beds, that only need a new mattress, fancy curtains, carpets, and they will all be as good as new, because people want to sell them, after all. Just look for the perfect price.

Don't want to buy new furniture?

Refurbished Furniture

That's cool. There are plenty of ways to freshen up your old one. Look at that old wardrobe in your bedroom. The polish is cracked, the mirrors are not sparkly any more, it just looks bad. There are a fey choices here. You can repolish the doors, which need some time, a lot of work, and some experience. Option B is to put some foil on it. There is a huge variate of foil styles on the market. You can change entirely the colour of the doors, you can make it look like it's made of different type of wood. It's cheap and easy to place. The third option is to make things look fancy, using simple methods. Put some curtains or some fabric. The doors will look more stylish now.

Let's go a little deeper. Your walls.

If you change the colour of your walls, or put some interesting wallpapers, it will change the whole looks of the room. Don't put a single colour. Make it at least two. Don't overdo it, of course, because too many colours might make your room look silly. Brighter colours will make your room bigger, but darker ones will make it look more stylish. Don't put simple colours like white, because they are dull. If you like white, combine it with some ornaments or other colours.

Wallpapers are also a good option. They can have different styling, ornaments, colour, and they are cheap. You might need to call a company to put them, but if you have the time, you'll figure that it's an easy job.

Don't forget about your fifth wall – the ceiling. Paint it in similar colours to your walls. Put some different lights, which brings us to the next step.

Play with the lights

If you change the lighting you will bring a whole different look to your room. Put a different lampshade and it could make the whole living room fancier. It can make your bedroom cosier and more luxurious. You won't believe what a simple lampshade can do and the best news is, they are not that expensive.

The last step is to clean the junk. If you don't have a friend with a van or a truck, you will most probably have to call a waste removal service. You will have quite a few trash bags filled with building materials and other stuff. The good things is, that there are a lot of companies like that. Rubbish removal Croydon is a company like that and can offer you other services along the way. The bad news is, that this is not exactly money saving, but the good news is, that you are saving a lot of time and effort. So a few pounds for a junk clearance service is not that bad.
