The sun is up and the and the days are longer. It's finally warm and we can wear only one layer of clothing. Your rooms are brighter and everything is in colour. Summer is coming. But there is a negative side in the whole picture.

With all the sunshine and light coming to your home you start noticing how dirty your windows are. You haven't cleaned them for the past six months, because everyone hates cleaning windows, plus - days were shorter and until you come home in the evening, the sun was down and you never even noticed. But now it's different and you have to roll up your sleeves and start cleaning.

How to clean windows?

If you ask in window cleaning forums they'll give you so many different methods. Some use newspapers, others use squeegees. Some are fans of cleaning products, others prefer to make their own solutions. It all depends on your taste and your goals. I'll share a few of the methods and you'll be the judge.

Squeegee

This is how professionals work. It's the fastest, cleanest way to clean your windows. Most people will agree squeegees are the easiest way to do the job.

What do you need? A squeegee, a sponge or T-bar, bucket, water, some detergent. That's it. Fill the bucket with warm water and add just a few drops of the cleaning detergent. Now wet the T-Bar and the whole windows. This will remove most of the dust.

When the windows are completely wet it's time to take out the squeegee. You start top to bottom - side to side. Some people do it top to bottom, there isn't much of a difference. A good tip is to dry the squeegee after each stroke, so you don't leave water lines on the glass. So you've gone from top to bottom, but now you see there are still wet parts at the edges. Just use a microfibre or a rug to dry those parts.

The Classic Method

Still, many people prefer to use a spray and rags. The method is kind of similar.

First you wet the windows - use the spray. You can replace the spray with a detergent which you can put in a bucket of water (exactly like in the first method). Then with a sponge wet the whole window. Instead of using a squeegee, just use the cloths/rags/microfibres.

I personally don't like the method, because you can't clean the windows with ease. You have to repeat and repeat until everything is cleaned. Some people suggest using newspapers for drying the windows. It actually is a useful tip, because sometimes newspapers work better than rags.

Homemade Window Cleaner

Some say that a natural homemade window cleaner does a better job than the products you can buy from the store.

It's actually a really simple solution - add water and vinegar to a spray bottle. It doesn't matter what kind of Vinegar you will use, just combine it with water in a spray bottle. Some of the people on the internet suggest to add liquid soap to this solution. And that's it - you have cheap product that can you can make in your home and might be even better than commercial products.

Scrape The Glass

This is essential part to how to clean a window - scraping the glass. Sometimes you have stickers, harder parts to clean. You can't use your spray, you can't use your squeegee. It's time to take out the scrapper.

Remember, always use a scrapper on a wet glass, because otherwise you'll scratch it. Also, always use a sharp blade - old and dull ones will surely scratch the surface. So wet the dirty area and scrape in one direction. Always in one direction. This is how you remove sticker from window.

Hopefully these few tips were useful for you. Don't forget that window cleaning is essential part of your spring cleaning schedule.
