The Zest was unveiled at the Indian Auto Expo in February 2014 held at Greater Noida and the much anticipated vehicle is now finally on the roads. Zest is the country’s first ever automatic diesel car in the C1 segment. With a fuel efficient engine and good quality features at reasonable price of Rs 4-7 lakhs, Tata Zest is surely a fast growing and healthy rival to other popular models here like the Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire.
The designers and product planners at Tata can be proud of their work with the Zest. It is built on the X1 platform with better excellence based on the company’s new philosophy - 'DesigNext, DriveNext, ConnectNext'. Although compact, it has a pretty long hood with a chrome finished signature grille and parabolic headlamp cluster. The trapezoidal air-dam is flanked by fog lamps lined with LED day-time running lights. Prominent crease lines, alloy wheels, body coloured handles and ORVM caps emphasise the sides. The striking exteriors are supplemented by equally attractive interiors. The spacious dual toned beige and black interior cabin can comfortably host 5 passengers. Day time running lights, touch screen, advanced audio system, power sockets, AC unit, cup and bottle holders, storage compartments, smart voice recognition, smart phone integration, AUX-in, USB, Blue-tooth and steering mounted audio controls are some of the features which makes the journey pleasant. The safety aspect is taken care by an electric power steering with speed sensitivity and active return function and others like dual path suspension, air bags, parking sensors, ABS and EBD. The sedan carries a decent boot capacity of 390 litres.
The Zest can be driven in three modes - cruise, economy and sports. The diesel version of Tata Zest is fitted with a 1.3 litre quadrajet diesel engine whereas the petrol version is powered by a new 1.2 litre Revoltron turbocharged engine. The Zest diesel also has the option of an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The ride quality in the Zest in unparalleled and is sure to bring a smile to the driver’s face.
