Deed Poll Procedure: Witnesses and Signatures
The best way to continue
forward with the name that best describes you is to use a Deed Poll to change
it. It can be liberating for someone to be allowed to use their chosen name in
public capacities.
What is the Deed Poll
process like?
After receiving your Deed
Poll, you must sign it and have it witnessed. We will offer you a paperwork
with instructions on how to complete your Deed Poll and any more copies so that
your name change is legally binding.
When does the signing
start?
You must sign the Deed
Poll as soon as you receive it for Signing and witnessing
deed poll. This signing, which needs to be seen, is known legally as
execution. After submitting your application, you will receive your Deed Poll
and information on how to conduct it. This is how your new name becomes
official and valid. It is entirely up to you to make sure that this process is
carried out properly; if not, your Deed Poll won't be accepted as legitimate,
and you won't be able to legally change your name.
