Pollution and the Autism link

Over the last few years Autism has been linked with the build up of toxic metals within the cells of the body. There has also been considerable controversy about the link between the MMR vaccine and Autism, due to thimerosal, the mercury derived preservative used in the vaccine itself. However there is now growing evidence that the autism heavy metal issue may reach far beyond vaccines, It would now appear that other metals besides mercury are also indicated.

Pollution in the home is another possible factor. The Californian Department of Health Services recently survey the homes of children with autistic spectrum disorder and found strong correlations with levels of mercury, cadmium, nickel, trichoroethylene and vinyl chloride in the air.

Two reports have indicated that levels of toxic metals are lower in the hair samples of autistic children than with a matched control group, indicating that autistic children have an inability to excrete the metals which are more than likely to be retained in their cells.

This evidence would suggest to me that internationally we are generally poorly informed by our governments and so it is incumbent upon us to do the necessary research in all matters to do with pollution, so that we can do our bit to ensure that our children and grandchildren have the best chance to have a safe world to live in
