Contacting Your Contact List

Well I know the Contact List is not for broadcasting, but how do you keep up with the ones you communicate with regularly at APSense. I sent out 6 messages to friends I want to contact and it took me forever. Going to my Account, clicking on the Contact List, scrolling through pages one at a time, scanning the faces to find one, send a message; and then have to start all over again. We have more widgets and gadgets than a Christmas Party, can we find some way to manage our Contact Lists, please? Just sharing, lol! max2work - caring, sharing and mentoring

Just A Word of Thanks To The APSense Group and the many members that contributed to this post.

For alphabetizing the Contact Lists and for dropping the Drop Button.

These Guys are really SUPER! When you say "Jump" they say "How High!"

You won't find that responsiveness in any other community circles in the Internet jungle.

I am here looking at the Alexa Toolbar showing a traffic rank of 15,491 - Lookout out the window, Yahoo! You may have competition. Well, still some way to go,

aside fom the msg selection problem i would dearly love the administration to add a "back to my contacts" page button so it's easy to get back to your contacts instead of going through all the process again.

Alphabetize the list by user name
and by there first name because sometimes we remember one and not the other...

that's what the search for member blog etc box is for at the top right... because if you can find them that way... it's easy to message them! but can't always remember the spelling or what they go by...

I think a simple search feature for our own contacts might be a way to do this also? i don't know what's involved with that but it might help?

Hi James Max -

As usual you have strated something here! LOL

I am all for alfabetizing the contacts - like certain other communities. And no I dont want to see options for receiving promotions etc - because - out of acorns - little oak trees grow. You never know whether a biz contact can turn into a friendship or visa versa.

The alfabetical list can always show in order of most recent poster within the letter. It works in other places.

Hey, Everyone!.

This has turned into a lively discussion, thanks for sharing.

I know there is no easy answer, but APSense always listens and responds to the needs of the Community. My suggestions may not be right for everyone, but here is an excerpt from a blog post I will do later.

."So, why can't we have a system that separates your lists in two or
there check marks for folders - A list is no good if you can't manage it

(1) - Will accept promotional offers
(2) - will not accept

Have to admit, I would be very concerned to see a 'mass mailing' feature. I think it would be too easy to abuse. Perhaps, we should all take the time to set up our contacts and exchanging e-mail addresses seems like a step in the right direction. They can then be categorised between those who are interested in receiving info. on opportunities, and those who are able to offer help and advice,, those who we consider as friends, etc, etc. But then there would still be some folks who would abuse tha

i agree with all of you! if you ask me the best suggestion is to build an apsense messnegr it would be so cool and the best way of really socializing with your friends here at apsense, and yeah setting it all up in alphabetical order is againa a good idea!

real nice topic!

Very nicely elaborated and thanks for the guideline. At present I just spend one to two hours on the Apsense and the day I start spending more time I think your guideline will be of great help for me. I have marked the page

Yeah, i know, it would most likely be abused... thats the problem with the "Desperate Advertising" mindset... and this place is populated that mind set.

Personally, i would use that type of feature to send my monthly catch-up newsletter...

Hi Eric,

I for one will never agree to getting mass mailing from contacts not even once a life time.

If that is introduced with your suggested option I guarantee every single one would be switched off

I get enough spam as it is without that being added to it.

I suggest if you want to mass mail your contacts set up a mailing list and invite them to join it. that way you get to send to the people that want it and those that dont are left in peace.

Perhaps an ability to Mass Mail our contacts once a month, but also have the ability to "turn off" mass mailing from individual contacts if they abuse the system... It would only require a check box next to each contacts name that says (Do Not allow mass mail from this user)... That way if any one abuses the feature it can be turned off from ONLY that user.

That way it doesn't spoil it for everyone else.

I would agree something is needed. It is extremely time consuming. Was it perhaps made this way to deter folks from spamming? You would have to take forever to spam to a worthwhile number of people!
Really, I think it could be made a lot more user friendly.

All these are great suggestions. I think that an apsense messenger would be so totally awesome. It works great for me on myspace, and a couple other biz communities that I am in!

Can there be some sort of 'Top Friends' list that only you can view? This way you can include all of your close friends...

Good ?..alphabetizing would seem to be the right way to go or some sort of a list for those that you are constantly in contact with and this way you separate the casual acquaintance versus the friends you are constantly in contact with. Just my .02 worth.

I base my cotacting on Honour points, I send to those with 20 honour points or more (less if i know of or have seen the person around).

This way i have a reasonable chance of sending to an active user.

Hi Max,

I Think it could do with some sort of listing alternatives such as most recent /longest ascending / decending on name.

plus maybe an a, b, c, index so if the name begins with D for example you click on the D and you get a listing of all contacts starting with D
