Why people use Fake Pictures?

it's unfair, In most cases illegal, and if you're showing something to someone and it is connected in any way to you, you should be proud of it, and proud to display your picture.

Showing your real picture means branding yourself. There might be people who already have a branding in an other field/sector and don't want to show up with their own pic with their - let's call it - second income opportunity. Therefore I accept a nice picture that may show nature, a celebrity (why not when the person identify herself with it?), an animal or whatever it might be.
I have my doubts regarding people "without any face" - only a grey shadow...

Some use fake pictures because they have something to hide, some use them because them because they don't like how they look and other simply don't know that it's much better for us to be able to connect a face with the words we see them write.

It is a pchychological state of mind or a necessity to use a fake picture for fear of being misused ? There are as many reasons as there are men on the earth !

I wasnt really thinking and wasnt really involved in the site till a day or two ago i never realised the power of apsense starting to grow on me its a much better picture anyway dont you think

Gerry, I think the most important, in my opinion anyway, is that using a real pic helps to brand yourself for the long term, especially if you use the same pic on every site. APSense is not a social network, it's a business social network

Wow i didnt realise that by just having a photo like mine could be so controversial some people i think need to lighten up a bit although i think i will be putting up my own pic now as i didnt really think about trust issues oh and il;l be putting up a rather handsom photo lol

they are lack of self confidence , and that is the focal point!!
many of them are innocent but have no idea about how to communicate with others vis distance contact . beside we do expect the negatives from other bodies.

Well, that would be the wrong kind of attention. Would you hide your face if you went to a networking meeting? Also, Helio, why hide behind those sunglasses?

My answer would be "a matter of choice what people do but I don't think using fake covers is to deceive others. Some people just want to have fun and get some attention online. "What is wrong with that?

In my opinion, I think most people use fake pictures to protect themselves from stalkers. Others also do not use their real pictures because they are too self conscious about how they look. It is good to show case your real identity other than faking it.

When people use fake pictures they do so because they do not have the confidence to represent themselves. There is also a doubt in the mind as to what will happen and how people will react when they see my pictures. So there is an insecurity that creeps into the mind. Thus people think that by using fake pictures, it does not matter if they do not represent themselves but they are fulfilling the terms of service and by doing so and thinking in such a way they are doing the wrong thing.

I totally Agree with you - Presenting yourself with real picture shows how much courage you have to face the world with your good and bad habits or skills which give you the opportunity to explore your inner side more and allow to grow. So if you want to learn and grow than you have to come with honesty.

To clarify, I believe the question should have been "Why do people use fake pictures to disguise themselves?" Many times, it has nothing to do with the person wanting to "hide" themselves for a particular reason; they merely lack self confidence to post an actual picture of themselves. True, many are used for shameless self promotion of their business, but I think more often than not, it's a matter of confidence in one's appearance.

Lol I just realized that when I see a fake picture and I'm being asked if I accept the picture, I click "no" :)

You might wonder why I'm being asked to approve the picture? It's a question of Honor Points, if I remember correctly. don't know how many it takes, but I have enough. Maybe it's a question of membership level, I can't confirm, since I am a Premium member.

Nowadays, I choose to accept contact requests from members with non personal pictures. It gives me a chance to talk to them about better ways to brand themselves. I'm convinced some of them are simply trying to stand out from the crowd, but they don't realize it's better to choose a real picture, the same pic on every site, for us to be able to recognize them easily and connect with them on those other sites too.

Beauty is within. A face or body has nothing to do with pure inner beauty.
