GMO food is made with plants that have been changed by scientists. But it is not something new. It has been sold since 1994 in USA. People who are against the use of GMO food debate worry about their safety. They argue indeed that eating GMO food over the long run can affect people's health.

The fact is, there has never been a single study on the human safety of GMO products. However there is clearly a danger with Genetic manipulation. Just Google Klebsiella planticola, a genetically manipulated bacteria that would have killed every plant on earth if it had been released into the environment.
In nature genetic modification occurs due to abnormal crosses i.e. crosses between plants belonging to different species or even genera, which normally do not mate with one another. Hard wheat and bread wheat are the result of introduction of genes of a wild grass, Aegilops, into primitive wheat. Modern maize is the product of a cross between primitive maize with Tripsacum a wild grass. Both wheat and maize are therefore essentially genetically modified organisms.
Altering our food has been the biggest mistake made and it effects people world wide. Looking at the history of food production in developing countries you can see the results over time... Diseases that were unknown before are showing up. We are literally killing ourselves.
