Who needs classrooms when we have internet?

My son has been doing Cyber School since the 5th grade. He is now in his last year and is doing well. He is not lacking in social skills and has interaction with his teachers and his peers. I really do feel that his education has been more concentrated. The classes are tough and the students of the cyber charters here in my city out shine the brick and mortar students 10 to one. I have first hand experience as a witness to the successes of online education.

Handing out a few recycled laptops is sure cheaper than building a classroom

In this day and age, I don't think any place should be without internet. It should be treason not to have internet connectivity. ^_^

There are some areas in the world that do not have access to internet facilities. so class rooms are necessary

The people behind the computer is real Vera, however virtual life is more distant than real face to face. I understand where you're coming from. Maybe most people on the internet do not put their true self forward and it's a common thing and very okay to do. As for me, I am who I am online or offline. It's just the way I am and I can't be any other way. I try to hide but it just feels so uncomfortable. ^_^

Students should also not live in isolation, virtual life is NOT real life anyway:)

Charlie thank you for joining this topic. Of course little kids need role models but what about Universities?

I definitely agree with U, Lisa, however, who would be there to teach us all the 'good values' of life? Outside our homes, it is our loving teachers, right? EDUCATION is not merely passing out our exams, climbing up the grades & knowing what's happening around us, it is much more than that. Of course, the internet can also teach us the 'good values' (at least in writing, or typing), however, it wouldn't be so much effective without a ROLE MODEL to guide us! :-)

Agree we can do that BUT the environment is Different. They should have the "FEEL" on that by doing face to face...

Chat forum...chat environment to share ideas for team work, cooperation, group projects, etc.

Yes it can be supplied thru' internet but what about "Team Building" and how to teach them
on "Cooperation" or "Team Work"?

Thanks for sharing JL. What is the point of going to class? What if all the reasons for coming into school can be supplied through the internet?

Still need to go to class because most of them aren't ready.
