I agree with Gimp! Definite must have. I also am a big fan LibreOffice. Then there is videoscribe (http://www.sparkol.com?aid=31895). Then there is easysoft movie editor, vuze, and winrar.
I think those are the first apps I always install on a new desktop.
If you are going to promote stuff online, I think everyone should have Photoshop Elements and I got my first copy in an older version on Ebay for about $20. It does just about everything the expensive one does for the web.
