Excellent advice from all! One safety point to mention: rear view cameras. Many mid to upper end cars now come equipped, but they can also be added to many older cars, trucks and SUVs. They really help!

Hi Jit,

I am in the market for another good used car. I probably have more resources than most people when it comes to doing that.

I go to look at a vehicle with someone who really knows cars, and fixes them properly. I open the hood, check the fluids to make sure they are the right color, smell (yes, if you know what to look for - smell can tell you a lot), and if it where is supposed to be. If it is a car I'm not familiar with, I check to see if there is an owner's manual in the glove b

Carefully check the paint job of the car, taking note of any rust spots, dents or scratches.
Check the trunk of the car to make sure it is still in good condition
Check under the hood of the car for any indication of dents, damage or rust
Check out the car's service history
Never buy a frame damaged car.
