Updates on Season Five of Rick and Morty

As the world slowly but surely returns to normal or some form of it, Adult Swim’s cult comedy sci-fi series, Rick and Morty, plans to give a boost to our morale. Notoriously famous for making fans wait for newer episodes, the makers have surprisingly announced that they’re almost done with making the fifth installment. The news comes only three months after the fourth season ended and fans couldn’t have asked for more. The show is irreverent at worst and absurd at best. For those fans that tend to get very deep into a fictional universe, the show is like Christmas. Layered with the fourth wall breaking antics and intricately built plots and subplots, there is too much depth in the show.

AND THE FANS HAVE ACCEPTED THIS QUIRKY SCIENCE COMEDY

The first three seasons came out with regular frequency, but the fourth one hit fans badly. For two years, ardent fans waited for the alcoholic grandfather and his underconfident grandson to make a comeback. And in May, they finally got to see Rick and Morty’s latest adventure. During a virtual Adult Swim Event, the creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland told fans that the fifth season is already “in the can.” Working in two-hour blocs over Zoom, the writers set up a digital writing room that created an exciting process for the creators.

A DIGITAL WRITING ROOM IS NOT THAT UNCOOL

You might think it would be so irritating to have a creative discussion with everybody interrupting everything, but it becomes really democratic. As the creators talked about the digital writing room, they talked about how we subconsciously give lesser attention to females than males. This is something that the human body has psychologically picked up, and we tend not even to realize that it is happening. And thus, in a digital scenario, everyone is equally privy to interruptions, without discrimination. So, it isn’t all bad to be stuck in a virtual box with your colleagues; maybe more creativity flows through the comfort of our homes.

The team also talked about making the show a once-a-month feature. Roiland said that they are always looking to break the pattern of reaching the masses, and an-episode-a-month will be beneficial to all. It would mean that they are on all year, but they still get the time required to make it so right. And fans agree, as we eagerly wait for season five to be here, a new episode every month doesn’t sound so bad.

Rick and Morty’s first four seasons are available to stream on Netflix.
