The food availability on train is no more a trouble area
The Indian Railways is much
famous for its numerous services these days. Though there are many areas where
it offers excellent services yet it is launching new services and enhancing its
efficiency. However, the availability of food on train was a weak point for
this leader of mass transportation. In the past, there were many kings who were
used to have own rail saloons with all type of facilities but after the
nationalization of Railways, such saloons became extinct. There are many trains
which cover a long distance and run for hours on the track to make the
passengers reach their destination. However, during this time of journey, for a
passenger it was too difficult to live as there were no facilities of food and
water. Hence, they were totally dependent on the stalls at various platforms.
However, considering this problem the department also started to attach a
pantry car to the train on the long route.
The Pantry car facilities:
The pantry car was basically
nothing but a kitchen on wheels. There were trained personnel who were to
prepare food and offer beverages to the passengers in the train. However, there
are many incidents noted where the department had to order an inquiry because
of the complaints such as higher charges, low quality items and poor services.
So, in a nutshell, the idea of pantry car also proved useless.
The E-catering:
As the problem of food was
persistent, a few of the private players in the field of food parcel services
came forward and put a proposal to the department for E-catering Indian railways. The concept was like the passenger or
his relative can place the order and ask for food parcel delivery at a
particular station. The service provider notes the requirement and a delivery
boy is sent to handover the food parcel to the passenger at his seat at
concerned railway station. The payment can be made online by using net banking
or credit/debit card. One can also make the cash payment to the delivery boy while
receiving the parcel.
The benefits:
There are numerous benefits of
this system and hence it is much famous among the passengers. The food is of
course of high quality and prepared in a hygienic kitchen. The taste of the
food is really admired by the passengers. The quantity of the food is enough
for one consumer and the rate for the food is also reasonable. There are also
numerous items in the menu at any point of time and hence one can feel like
ordering the food at a hotel only. The on-time delivery as per the commitment
of the service provider is really appreciated. They have also system where one
can place the order on the website as well as phone by calling the customer
care. There are also options for veg as well as non-veg food which makes the
user happy and enjoy the journey with quality food. The service provider has
covered a number of routes and hence one can easily get the food parcel on any
route.
