Coming to Ovulation, is a way in which nature signals you of a successful or failed pregnancy. Let us learn a little more about it.

What is Ovulation?

When a woman's body releases an egg or eggs from one of her ovaries, she is said to be ovulating. It usually occurs in the midst of the menstrual cycle. Conception happens when a fertile man's sperm cell travels up through the vaginal canal into the uterus and into a woman's fallopian tube. As it travels through one of the fallopian tubes, it unites with the woman's egg cell.

The merged egg and sperm continue to move down the fallopian tube, dividing into two, four cells, and so on. The fertilized egg reaches the uterus approximately a week after fertilization. By this time it becomes a developing cluster of around 100 cells known as a blastocyst.

In the uterus, this division continues forming a baby and a placenta to provide nutrition as well as oxygen. Hormones are produced in the body at the same time, signaling that a baby is forming inside the uterus and instigates it to keep its lining instead of discarding it. As a result, the woman misses her period for that month, indicating pregnancy. The presence of these hormones aids the accuracy of ovulation testing.

Ovulation and infertility

Pregnancy is only technically feasible if the act of reproduction occurs near ovulation. The three days leading up to and including ovulation are the most fertile. Couples can successfully conceive within this time range. It has the highest chance of becoming pregnant.

Because the egg is no longer in the fallopian tube 12-24 hours after ovulation, a woman is no longer able to become pregnant. Hence, resulting in failed attempts, their chances of becoming pregnant are nearly nil.
