Managing your iTunes Store and App Store password preferences

Apple is strict about the security of the customer. They want the data and information stored on their Apple devices to be confidential. Even the device lost could be tracked and recovered. To use your Apple device, you require to have the Apple ID and password. You can turn on the password protection on your device. 


When purchasing the songs or any applications, you need to enter your password, Even if you are logged in with the Apple ID. This happens if you have kept your purchase password protected. However, you can remove turn off the password protection to download the free items on your IOS device or your computer, but you need to keep the password protection for the paid items. You can turn off the password protection for free and paid items on your Apple Television.

Manage your password on the password on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.


  • Log in to your iTunes account and tap on the settings, on your name, and then on iTunes & App Store.

  • You need to tap on the password settings. 

You will not be able to find the password settings if you’ve turned on touch ID or face ID for your purchase.

  • As per your choice, you can tap on always require or require after 15 minutes under the - purchase and in-app purchases tab.

  • Tap on - require a password to the settings ON or OFF under the free downloads. 

  • Enter your password, and press OK. 


Manage your password on the password on MAC or Windows PC. 


  • Go to your iTunes (keep iTunes updated with the latest version).

  • On Mac - At the top of your computer screen choose iTunes listed on the menu bar, and click on preferences. 

On Windows - At the top of your computer screen choose - Edit, and then click on preferences

  • On the next step, click on the store tab.

  • You need to choose the preferred level of protection from the menu under the purchase or free downloads. 

You will not be able to see this menu if you have activated a touch ID.

Now you can select always require, require after 15 minutes, or never require under the purchase. 

  • You need to enter your password and click on OK. 

  • Click on OK again to save your preferences.
