John Jefferis - An Excellent Hotelier

John Jefferis is an award-winning Caribbean hotelier with a knack for creating great resorts.

He graduated from Birmingham University and undertook post graduate studies at Cornell University where he was honored as the Top Final Year Management Student. He has held membership in several organizations, including the Bermuda Government's Tourist Board and Marketing Committee, and once served as chairman of the Caribbean Hotel Association Marketing Committee. As a result of his involvement and noteworthy accomplishments with the organization he earned a reputation for excellence in his field.

In 1990 Jefferis joined The Elbow Beach Hotel and Development Company in Bermuda as  managing director. His valuable contribution to the company was recognized, and he was awarded by the National Regional Tourism Affairs as the "Caribbean Hotelier of the Year". In 1991 he opened The Coco Reef Resort in Tobago, now considered one of the most modern resorts of its kind in the Caribbean.

It is a man-made reef in the Ocean that plays an important role in conserving the habitat and marine life, and a tourist attraction that has earned the hotel ‘Caribbean Dream Resort of the Year’ and ‘The Best Resort in the Caribbean’ awards. In 2003 Jefferis bought the Stonington Beach Hotel, and after a US$10 million reconstruction, renovation and refurbishment project opened it under the name Coco Reef - Bermuda.

His accomplishments in the industry have won him individual awards such as the "Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year" in 2000 and the "Premier Hotelier of the Caribbean Award" in 2006. His secret lies in innovation. When he acquires a hotel, he re-designs it to meet the needs of modern-day guests.

He is not averse to hard work, has a good attitude, strives to provide excellent service, and always ensures his guests receive his personal attention. All his hotels provide high speed Internet connection for travelers, state-of-the-art spas, and great restaurants.
