Value of Clear Brine:

With clear brine solution one can understand saline liquid that is used in completion operations when a pay zone is penetrated. It is an aqueous solution of inorganic salts. Brine solutions are used because their densities are higher but they don’t have any suspended solid particles, which can damage the formations. The brine solutions refer to chloride or bromide of sodium and formates.

In the oil and gas industry, clear brines are used as well as control fluids. They play an important role during the phases of completion and workover. Since, they are free from any solid material the producing formation remains safe from clogging and consequent damage. The presence of salt also prevents unwanted reactions such as clay swelling. They are prepared to have different densities as per the needs of the specific conditions with the help of a combination of salts.

Completion Fluids Features:

Clear Brine Fluid Solution

As completion, Clear Brine Fluids Solutions are indispensable in the oil and gas drilling operations. These fluids are used just before they are about to complete the production of oil or gas and during well testing. Before the production of oil or gas, this fluid is introduced inside the well to allow completion of final operations easily. It reduces friction, brings down temperature in the well bore equipment. It also helps settling down of equipment in the bore with ease.

Here are four main characteristics of completion fluids:

• They have proper density and flow.
• Their pH is high.
• They have high ionic composition.
• They are always chemically compatible with the reservoir formation.

Liquid Sodium Bromide

Liquid Sodium Bromide has density in the range of 8.4 to 12.5 lb/ gal and is clear and colorless. It is blended with other brines to achieve the desired density when used as a completion fluid. It is used to form a non-damaging drilling fluid. It is a clear fluid with pH 7 and crystallization point at -33oF. It is single salt brine and is used with other brines to form clear brine workover or completion fluids.

Sodium Bromide Order:

There is a big advantage of using Completion 12.5™ over calcium based brines, which pose the danger of formation damage because of the precipitation of carbonate, bicarbonate or sulphate compounds, in those cases where the formation water has high amount of bicarbonate and sulphate ions.

Sodium Bromide should be handled wearing protective equipment and all precautions should be adopted. First aid should be provided in case of mishandling of the liquid. It is stored in bulk quantities to be used over a period of time. Therefore, it should be stored in corrosion-resistant containers meant to store brines and should be closed and firmly sealed.

As a completion fluid, there is huge demand for sodium bromide as it offers protection to the well and prevents stability to it. Since it is a significant chemical used in oil and gas exploration, it should be obtained only from reputed manufacturers alone.
