In general, upholstery is outside the realm of most DIYers because of the skill required to ensure the best outcomes. It is, therefore, best to get it done by experienced professionals who have mastery over the craft. If you are looking for guidance in this regard, you can check with a few contractors who take up home renovation in Moorhead. However, there are many furniture items that can be easily reupholstered by eager DIYers. Having said that here is how you can complete a simple project in about 30 minutes with the help of just three tools.

 Choose your furniture item

In order to quickly complete a reupholster project, choose a piece that has an upholstered part which can be separated from the base frame.

Select the fabric

Choose the new fabric with which you want to replace the old one. It is a good idea to choose the fabric depending on where you want to use the furniture piece. If the furniture is to be used in the kitchen, then you can check with one of the kitchen remodeling companies in Fargo to find out as to which fabric would be the best.

 Get your tools

The tools for this project are a staple gun, scissors, and flat-head screwdriver.

Disassemble

Flip the furniture over and remove the screws that hold the seat in positions using the screwdriver. Pop the seat, the upholstered part, out of the frame of the furniture.

 Remove fabric

If you don’t have a staple remover with you, the flat-head screwdriver can be used to remove the old staples. Now, peel off the fabric.

 Replace padding if required

If the padding is alright, you can use the same. If not, use new padding. For additional protection, you may attach one layer of muslin underneath or above the fabric.

Measure, cut, and place the fabric

Lay the fabric on a flat surface. Place the piece that is being upholstered on top. Cut around the piece leaving an additional four inches on all sides.

 Staple the fabric

Pull the edge of the fabric over the piece to be upholstered and staple the opposite sides to ensure that the fabric remains taut.

 Fold the corners

Fold the edge of the fabric at an angle to have a crisp-looking corner. Then, staple the corner. Repeat for other corners.

Trim the sides of the fabric

Trim the sides of the fabric to prevent excess material hanging from the bottom of the seat.

Reattach the reupholstered part

After trimming the edges of the fabric, fix the reupholstered part on to the frame. Replace the screws that hold the part in place.

Now, you have a brand new piece of furniture for yourself!
