Facebook Explicitly Details the Takedown Rules
Facebook has been in the news for a very long time now. From buying to extending, it is making sure to be in the buzz for one thing or the other. Recently, the social media pioneer has made the takedown policies more clearly listed for the users.
Let us first examine the list of things that can fall into the category of being blocked, might be any pictures encouraging nudity or being offensive, personally or religiously. As per the latest Facebook News, the users had been confused about what is the criteria for any offensive or harmful data to be removed from the social network, therefore, keeping that in mind they have detailed the points as to why or when the data shall be taken down.
The section that was updated by Facebook comes under the “Community Standards” area. This area provides an idea to the users as to what should be shared and what shouldn’t be. Also, includes stuff that might come upfront as an offense or harmful attempt for the other users on the firm’s website. The updated Community Standards’ sections and clauses shall be sent to the users who have or are complaining about removing some content. The global head of the social network’s content policy told BBC news as to why the firm decided to re-write the sections. She said:
“We [would] send them a message saying we're not removing it because it doesn't violate our standards, and they would write in and say I'm confused about this, so we would certainly hear that kind of feedback,".
She further explained, "And people had questions about what we meant when we said we don't allow bullying, or exactly what our policy was on terrorism.[For example] we now make clear that not only do we not allow terrorist organizations or their members within the Facebook community, but we also don't permit praise or support for terror groups or their acts or their leaders, which wasn't something that was detailed before."
The firm has now avoided the vague section on nudity and has become more unambiguous. It says that the images "focusing in on fully exposed buttocks" are banned, also, "images of female breasts if they include the nipple". Textural content that explains the sexual acts in “vivid detail” are forbidden too. Other clauses pointed out to a few aspects but are not limited to:
- Images that are directed towards humiliation or insult of an individual are forbidden.
- The examples pointing towards the hate speech of others and aiming to guide people not to do the same can be done, but the reason should only be limited to learning.
This will definitely clear the air as to the norms that shall be kept in mind when posting something on Facebook.
