Amazon To Set Up Two New Fulfillment Centers
The American online retailer will establish 2 new fulfillment centers in Edwardsville to expand its distribution network.
On 2nd June 2016, Amazon announced it would establish two “fulfillment centers,” in the city of Edwardsville. The move will bring 1,000 job opportunities while adding a brand to an expanding logistics and distribution center in the Metro East region. Amazon’s distribution and warehouse facilities service a rising number of online shoppers by storing and delivering items to customers who are interested in having them fast. One center will manage huge products- large screens televisions, kayaks or sports equipment- whereas another will manage products like electronics as well as books.
The Seattle based company has around 50 of the facilities, and with the growth of the online retail rivalry, it’s looking to rapidly deliver to meet the times pledged by its premium facility, Amazon Prime. Spokesperson of Amazon Ninda Lindsey stated she doesn’t have details regarding whether the company aimed to provide same- day deliveries in the city of St Louis when the warehouses are operational.
The web retailer states that the two warehouses, each over 700,000 square feet, will serve the nearby region, but are equipped with the capacity to ship to 185 states. Already, the company is finding managers, but Ninda stated the organization did not yet have expectations for when the newly set-up centers would be running as well as fully staffed. Around 90% of the job opportunities will probably pay over $30,000 on an annual basis, stated economic development director of Edwardsville.
The company states they will provide benefits, including stock awards, retirement, “generous” maternal as well as parental leave benefits. Walter stated officials expected 1 of the centers to get open by Oct 2016 but did not have a date for second facility. Amazon’s new warehouses will probably draw employees from across the region. And for Madison County in the US, the new job opportunities could not be provided at a better time.
They could play a helpful role in softening the blow from the lay-offs of 2000 employees at the US Granite City Steel mill, which idled previously in 2016 and will continue to be closed for an unknown time-period due to lack of steel demand. The 2 warehouses the company is re-trofitting for its new facilities were both established in 2015 as part of an expanding distribution center in the city made up of 2 business parks.
Other organizations like Dial Corporation, Procter & Gamble as well as World Wide Technologies. Already, work is being done to get the new warehouses ready for the online trading platform operator, which will get them leased from the developers. Building materials of the warehouses were also exempted from sales tax.
