Image Your leftover dinner, quick lunch to work and weekend picnic meals all go perfectly in your stash of plastic containers. These handy set of containers can however, suffer enormous damage with daily usage. Keeping your friendly containers in the best shape is easy when you know how to use and clean them the right way. Have a look at the top four tips that will prevent you from damaging your plastic containers:

Microwave cooking: Be careful when you are using plastic containers in the microwave. Particularly, containers that are not marked “microwave safe” can be damaged if used in this quick-cook appliance. When food with high fat content are cooked or heated in plastic containers in the microwave then they can damage the containers. The best thing you can do is transfer the food into a plate before heating it or heat the food in glass containers rather than plastic.

Use in the dishwasher: Before tossing your plastic containers in the dishwasher, make sure that they are dishwasher safe. Checking the labels is important before you put them in the dishwasher with your dinner plates. In some cases, if you fail to do so then there is a possibility that the lids of the containers do not seal tightly into the container any longer. If you are still putting them in the dishwasher, make sure they are placed in the upper rack.

Avoiding stains: If you wish to protect your dear containers from those nasty and stubborn stains coat the inside of the Tupperware Storage Containers with a small amount of cooking oil. This will create a thin layer between the food and the container and prevent the food from staining the plastic. If the containers are already stained, mix one tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach with one cup of warm water and pour it over the containers. Let it stay for half an hour and then wash it off with warm water and detergent.

Removing odours: To remove odours from your plastic containers, make sure that you give them a quick rinse as soon as you empty the containers. If the smell somehow seeps in, put some baking soda on a clean sponge and wipe the container with this before rinsing it with water. If the smell persists, put some crumbled newspaper in the cleaned and dried container. Let them stay for a couple of days so that the newspaper soaks in the odour. Wash it off with hot water and soap after 2 days.
