Keep in mind that an operating system is basically a program to organize files and applications with a way to launch them that is user friendly. Once the application is launched, the user should have little concern for what operating system is running it. If I am running Firefox on Windows or Linux, it looks and runs the same.
Thanks Warren for clearing that up. I guess I know a bit of Greek after all since I know a tab about Windows... perhaps your just talking with a bit of dialect that I am not use to.. You know how I HATE change..... But I think I have to CHANGE!! Dang it all
Hi Warren, I'm using RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) for years, but for home use I have winXP but now it's time (maybe) to use Linux for my desktop, also :)
Marko if you are coming from Windows and not very familiar with Linux yet, I would suggest you at least look at PCLinuxOS, which was derived from Ubuntu I believe. I have used it for a couple of years and it is much more user friendly.
I ran WIN98 for many years after support had ended. It didn't affect me, except that I was no longer susceptible to viruses because no one was coding viruses for an obsolete OS....

Also keep in mind that for Internet you can dual-boot Linux or put it on a USB drive and boot from there. That way your Windows won't be exposed.
