I think we have some long ago negative connotations from our childhood with parents telling us: Money is the root of all evil. (Actually it is 'THE LOVE OF money is the root of all evil) Or being told that 'we can't afford it', I'm not made out of money, Money doesn't grow on trees, you will have to work hard to make money all your life, Anybody with money has screwed the little guy to get it. I don't think it is that people is afraid of money, but more afraid of making the wrong decision and not being able to distinguish between genuine opportunities and scams. After being scammed so many times you just don't trust anyone any more and you do not try to make money any more because the small success that you did have was scammed away from you, so just stay without money then there is no risk of it stolen from you.
