I mostly use the well known suppliers, I then visit them all to find who is offering the best deal on the product I am looking at. A product I purchased recently varied in price from £92 to £149 with different major suppliers, so it is well worth shopping around.
For specific areas, I make sure the site is real by reading the contact information and footer usually contains site verifications. Knowing a site owner also really helps, if you are into niche marketing.

Marketing: W.S.O's from the Warrior Forum (I like the fact that you can find out what others think about the product before you make a purchase, due to threads).
