I just let gmail filter them to spam, check to make sure something I want didn't get sent to spam and then just bulk delete every few days

The Email moderator robots always deliver suspected spam-mails into spam inbox. For safety of your account you don't open it and also don't follow the links given

Use gmail filters, Other thing is a lot of those spammers have dodgy unsub links and I think many even like you to unsub because then they know its an active account, so best not to go near any links in spam and just set up filter or send to spam, I think its best only to use the unsub link if its a legitimate site that you know you have opted in to, If its a spammer out of the blue I would not touch that unsub link and just filter or spam it

All above suggestion are excellent in their own way, one surer way is to use BoxBe (https://www.boxbe.com/register ).

Use Gmail filters to delete them and you never see them again.

Using rules, mark as spam are working. Unsubscribe links not always working...

You might use SPAMfighter or MailWasherPro.

If it's an email account your fond of, closing it wouldn't be an option, getting rid of spammers is virtually impossible, most spammers think they are helping their business be sending unsolicited emails, but how further from the truth it is. I have a certain email address that I expose on the internet, and spammers get hold of it and send all sorts of unwanted emails, but I expected that to happen, but I let them go to spam and just keep deleting them, their emails are falling on deaf ears lol.

Put them all in email accounts you don't use. Also open them and click unsubscribe.

Anti-Spam filters, and marking as "SPAM" are two good ways to eliminate this activity. Then sometimes wanted email may end up in the SPAM account and become lost. View email in the SPAM account to insure these wanted messages are moved to INBOX.
