Akismet does not work. It's not as effective as WP Spam blocker.

Hi Oswald, Akismet didn't block it. I had them on those settings but they still came through and posted itself without my approval. Thank you for the Trojan horse warning. I will check it out.

I use Akismet and set the comments to be approved by admin before they can appear.

By the way, I just visited your internetincome4u.biz website but my Avast antivirus threw up a Trojan horse warning. Your website seems to be infected. Please look into it.

It's too time consuming to do that and besides the most important reason is that the spam ads steal your spotlight. The spam ads take the top position of your posts at other social media like twitter or Linkedin, etc.. where only the last post will show for your profile. If visitors come to see you, they expect to see your blog posts, not some spam post. That is why I need to block them. But they're just breaking in through all kinds of barriers. I have run out of ideas. I might need to wri

Why not simply go through and delete the comments you don't want on your blog? That's all I do. I don't have time to go in every day but when I go in I read all the comments - they are separate from the "approved" ones so you read through and approve or delete. I find they don't come back but the ones you approve do.

Yah, I don't use that option either Philippe, for the exact same reason.
Cheri, the bots have stopped coming through with the 2 spam plugins:
Spam IP Blocker
WP Anti Spam
These were more 'intelligent' bots and now they are completely blocked from my page.
Thank you everyone for your very useful tips. This is another "what the blog is wrong" moment. Happy Blogging!

I prefer not to use that option, Cheri, I feel I would get a lot less comments

Okay Lisa, when you say post you must mean comments right?
So all you want to do is control comments.

Did you check wih option that says all comments must be by registered subscribers?

Setup your blog where messages have to be approved by the "admin", if you don't approve it, it can't get posted :-)

I stopped using Akismet, I use GASP instead. It asks for a human intervention, you'll see you almost get no spam comments after that, so you'll realize most were from robots. GASP is awesome, reduces considerably the time it takes to clean things up.

GASP is free.
