Have you ever watched an old movie from the 1950s or 1960s? If you have, there's typically a scene in which a character will make a phone call, answered by an operator sitting in front of a giant switchboard. The character would say who they wanted to speak with, and the operator would connect them by manually plugging a line into the appropriate socket on the switchboard. Business telephone service has come a long way from those old days of the operator sitting in front of the switchboard and rotary phones. These days, Skype and other VOIP protocols are in place alongside digital telephone services that take advantage of high-speed communications to deliver clear calls. In much the same fashion, business computer services have come a long way since ENIIAC. How businesses not only have small PC workstations throughout their offices, they also often have high storage capacity servers, RAID devices, and other high-tech hardware.

Proper business phone support is crucial to a business' running successfully. While current multi-line telephone systems may be simple to set up and begin using, they can prove complicated if things are not working correctly. And this can cost a business valuable time, money, and customers. In spite of the inroads e-mail and other electronic correspondence have made in business communication, proper phone contact is still the lifeblood of any business' inner workings. If phone service is interrupted for an extended period of time, a business may not be able to recoup losses as customers seek out competitors, technical support is contacted, and the phone system is slowly debugged and returned to normal functionality. Another issue a business might face is the lack of a working voice mail system. Customers, vendors, and any other important callers cannot do business if they are unable to leave a message to allow a company representative to call them back. So until Skype and similar protocols have total domination of the communication structure of a business, phones are a necessity for day-to-day operation of a business, meaning business telephone service needs to be kept running as smoothly as possible.

Similarly, business computer service is vital as computers continue to be used in practically every workplace throughout the country. One challenge facing companies is the divide between older employees who may not be as tech savvy, and younger employees who practically grew up using computers and other forms of tech. Another challenge is ensuring that hardware, software, and other components are operating optimally, without errors, slowdowns, or downtime. This is especially true as vendors, customer services, and other business transactions shift from in-person and by mail to electronic transactions. Vendors may e-mail invoices to be paid, creditors may send statements to be paid online, and a business might even have a payment portal for customers to pay their own bills through. These are all intricate parts of the operations of a business, and the business can be crippled if any of these processes are not functioning properly. So business computer service is about more than making sure computers are plugged in and network cables are connected. It's also making sure that software and hardware are compatible and communicating with one another, ensuring that internet access is running fast and smooth, and that constructs set up for the business are functioning properly. If any of those things are not working, they need to be repaired as quickly as possible so the business can keep running.
