What is the Fastest Way to Get a PAN Card?
Through a regular course to apply for a PAN card, it generally takes 15-20 days before you receive it. However, there is a provision to get your card sooner if you submit your application through form 49A on the website of any of the following:
Income Tax Department
National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL)
UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Ltd. (UTIITSL)
There is one more condition, in addition to this. You’ll also have to pay the application processing fee through a credit card nominated in your name.
You can submit your application both online or in-person at designated centres.
But, why would you need to rush to get your PAN card? Well, there could be several reasons. For example, you may need to open a bank account urgently or want to get your firm registered at the soonest.
To understand the process better, let’s pick the example PAN application submission on the NSDL website. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
Step 1: Visit the website.
Log in to NSDL website Visit the NSDL website (https://nsdl.co.in/) and select New PAN- Indian Citizen (Form 49A) from the drop-down. From the next drop-down, select the appropriate PAN Type. If you’re applying for the PAN card for yourself, select Individual. After this, enter all required details.
Step 2: Choose the type of submission.
Read the guidelines carefully on the portal and select the type of form. It refers to how you want to make the submission i.e. through e-KYC and e-Sign or scanned images through e-Sign or in person. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down and fill in the required details.
Step 3: Submit the PAN application.
Once you’ve filled in the details and uploaded all relevant documents on the portal, go ahead and submit the form. If you wish to submit the form offline, download it from the NSDL website, fill it up and submit it along with the supporting document at the nearest PAN service center. After submission you can see status of your PAN card through the Alankit.com.
Step 5: Receive your PAN card.
After the successful submission of the application form, you’ll receive an acknowledgment along with an application number. You can use this number to track the status of your application on https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pantan/StatusTrack.html. The concerned department will then verify all the details you’ve submitted and process the application further. After that, the department will send you your PAN card through the registered post within two working days.
There is an important point you may want to remember. Since you’ll be expecting the post, make sure there is someone at home to receive it. In case of non-receipt, the postal authorities will return your PAN card to the concerned department and you’ll need to repeat the application process right from the beginning.
In case you don’t receive your PAN card within the specified time, which can be due to many reasons, reach out to the NSDL or PAN/TDS call centre and get the status of your card.
Aadhaar card proves to be a benefit in this case and simplifies the process a little. If you have one, you can simply link it to your PAN card application form and you will not have to present any other documents.
