Scaring away pest birds and wild animals are the biggest challenge that is faced by farmers, garden owners, airport authorities and many other people. In their attempt to scare off the birds and animals, they cannot take any step that would be harmful to the creatures. At the same time, they cannot tolerate the nuisance created by these creatures as they come uninvited and spoil the plantations or cause harm to the property. One simple and effective solution to ward off these unwanted creatures off your property is by using a bird scare cannon.

What is a bird scare cannon?

A bird scare cannon is the latest addition in the means to scare off birds from fields and protected properties. It is cannon that produce a sound blast of 120-125 decibels to scare the birds and animals and shoo them off from an area measuring 40,000 sq. ft. The sound blast that gets produced does not cause any physical damage to the animals or the living environment. These cannons are absolutely nature-friendly as they do not use any sort of poison, chemicals or harmful gases to ward off the birds and animals. These cannons are basically powered by LPG gas, propane or butane, which is why they are also known as propane bird cannon.

The bird scare cannon finds its wide application in scaring off birds like pigeons or parrots and wild animals like pigs, deer, boars, monkeys, wolves and even bigger ones like bears. It is of immense use in fruits and vegetable gardens, poultry farms, fish ponds, factories and depots, where pest birds create a lot of nuisance. Farmers and ranch owners use this to scare off wild animals from their agricultural lands or stables. Beehive owners use propane bird cannon to scare away bears and airport authorities use it at airfields, airports and hangar areas to shoo off infiltrating animals like monkeys or wolves.

How to use propane bird cannon?

Using the propane bird cannon is as simple as its working principle. The cannon comprises of a cylindrical barrel that is open at one end. At the other end of the barrel is a spark plug, gas tank, valves and control system. As the cannon get fired, the valve allows the gas (propane, butane or LPG) into the hollow barrel which gets ignited by the spark plug. As the explosion happens, the impact gets blown out of the open end of the barrel in the form of a sonic blast and does its job of scaring the unwanted birds and animals off that zone.

While using the bird scare cannon, it is mounted on a tripod which increases the height of the explosion and also allows the gun to be rotated at 60º with every blast’s impact. By rotating the cannon gun’s direction the coverage area gets increased. The interval between two blasts can be controlled by the user who can vary it from the range of 30 seconds to a longer gap of 20 minutes. However, blasts as quick succession yield better results of shooing the animals and birds off.

These cannons are usually easy to install and easier to use. Being portable, they can be carried from one place to another and thus can be used to protect a wide area from the unprecedented visits of pest birds and wild animals.
