What Are the Best Elder Scrolls Online Classes for Solo Play?
With all the talk about synergistic skills, PvP, best Elder Scrolls online classes for DPS, etc, etc that has flooded the internet in recent weeks, it sometimes seems like people have forgotten just how many MMOs players actually enjoy solo play. So to help balance things out, we decided to take a look at what ESO classes are best for solo play.
Skill Balance
Looking at the different skill lines, all of the classes can be used for effective solo play. There isn't any class that is incapable of be being an effective fighter, or that has not buffs or healing spells to help get out of a tight jam. At the same time, some classes are more specialized that others.
Templars are out of the running almost immediately. While they are a strong class, having an entire skill line taken up by healing abilities reduces their options for damage dealing and other more active skill sets. While ever solo player needs some healing ability, one or two healing abilities in a more general skill line will be plenty
The other three Elder Scrolls online classes all have a good mix of skills, with NightBlade definitely being the most flexible in terms of having DPS, buffs/debuffs, healing, ranged and melee focused skills scattered throughout all three skill lines.
Weapons Specialties
While every class can use any weapons, Sorcerers get bonuses for using staffs. Or, to put it another way, if you want to get the most out of your Sorcerer character you want to stick with a single weapon type. Unfortunately this is something of a weakness for solo play, where you generally want at least two weapons skills: one for melee and one for ranged. Again, this doesn't mean a Sorcerer can't solo--they can still pick up a ranged weapon to go with their staff. You just need to split your skill points between the two (which means not getting all the power bonuses for focusing on staffs). However if you have to choose between making the most powerful character possible, and the most effective character possible, then Sorcerer is not your best choice for solo play. Perfectly useable, but not the best.
DragonKnights are a generally well rounded class with nothing to take away from their effectiveness in solo play and nothing that particularly enhances it. They are ESO's answer to the traditional fighter class of other MMOs, and they fill the role well.
However the best Elder Scrolls online class for solo play is definitely the NightBlade. With their stealth bonuses for sneaking around enemies and mobs too large to handle on your own, and their flexible skill set, they are perfect for the dedicated solo player. Like most rogue-type classes, they have abilities that work well with close-in melee weapons and ranged options.
So, there you have it. While any ESO class can be used for solo play, the NightBlade is definitely the class of choice for dedicated solo players.
