A few summers back, the Indian government applied a two-month gap rule on e-tourist visa India so as to prevent the foreign citizens from visiting India at frequent intervals. According to the two-month gap rule, it was mandatory for the people holding the Indian visa to have at least a 2-month gap between their two visits to India. Except for the cases of extreme emergency visits, such as medical reason, death of a relative or anything else, this system was strictly followed.

Although, during late November 2012, this system on Indian travel visa was abolished by the government except for the citizens of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, and Bangladesh. But there is still a couple of options for the citizens of these countries to avoid this system in cases of absolute emergency.

  1. A RE-ENTRY APPLICATION: if you really have an urgent need to return to India within two months of your previous visit, you can apply for a re-entry permit. You can apply for the re-entry application at any Indian visa processing center. Your application is then reviewed under the special case. You need to specify a valid reason for your need of re-entry along with the proper legal documents in cases of medical or business emergencies. It is always worth applying under this case if you really have an emergency because there have been cases where the re-entry is granted to the people. Indian visa processing time isn’t much longer so you need not wait for many days for the response of the application. It's mandatory for each person to register at a Foreigner’s Regional Registration Office in India who re-enters in the country under this circumstance.

  1. TRIP TO NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES: if you wish to re-enter India, you can take a side trip to any of the neighboring countries such as Nepal, Thailand, or Sri Lanka. You can books return flight via India which will ensure your re-entry to India before 2months.

Unlike earlier, the Indian government had now simplified its policies of tourist visa. Now, it is easier for a large number of people to get a visa and visit the country. The new policy of the government also permits you to apply for an e-visa through the official site of the government. If you don’t need a visa for longer than a year, then e-visa is the best option for you as it allows you multiple entries to India in the duration of a year making the traveling dates convenient for the travelers. Although it is still not possible to stay in the country for an entire year at one go as the visa permits a continuous stay of 90-180 days depending on your nationality.

The Indian e-visa fees vary from country to country. It is $100 for the citizen of the U.S. Since it is comparatively cheaper than the regular visa, the duration of visit permitted on an e-visa is also shorter than the regular visa.
