In 1999, BMW introduced the BMW X5, a midsize luxury crossover vehicle, marking their first sports activity crossover. The X5 was BMW's first SUV, released between 1999 and 2006 with model code E53, featuring V6, V8, petrol, or diesel engines with 3.0- to 4.8-liter capacities. The second-generation X5, released between 2006 and 2013, featured the iDrive system and the first seven-seater with a third row option.

The third-generation X5, model code F15, was released between 2013 and 2018 with three optional engines: one V8 petrol and two 6-cylinder diesel. The fourth-generation X5 was introduced in 2018 and is still in production as of 2021. Engines

The 2014 BMW X5 comes in four trims: sDrive25d, xDrive35i, xDrive30d, and xDrive50i, each with its own engine and drivetrain. The sDrive25d is a 2.0-liter diesel engine with a turbocharge, producing 215 hp and 325 lb.ft of torque, and achieving 0-100km/h in 8.2 seconds with an average fuel consumption of 17 km/l. The xDrive35i is a compact vehicle with a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel engine, producing 300 hp and 300 lb.ft of torque, and achieving 0-100km/h in 6 seconds. The xDrive30d is a compact vehicle with a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel engine, producing 255 hp and 413 lb.ft of torque, and achieving 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds. The xDrive50i is a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine with 449 hp and 479 lb.ft of torque, producing 0-100km/h in 5 seconds and an average fuel consumption of 9.5 km/l. The engines are powered by an 8-speed automatic with shift paddles.


Interior & Exterior

The X5's interior is a blend of BMW's DNA, featuring a sporty steering wheel and iDrive control for a comfortable driving experience. The 2014 X5 offers spacious interior with plush seats, accommodating five adults, and a second-row seat split that folds in 40:20:40 for flexibility. The seven-seater models offer an optional third row with Easy Entry, suitable for short journeys, and a cargo capacity of 650-liters with rear seats up and 1870-liters with seats folded flat. The 2014 X5 features an AM/FM/CD player, USB port, Bluetooth, and iDrive infotainment system with a 10.2-inch screen for navigation and other functions.


The infotainment system in the vehicle allows smartphone connectivity through iTunes, allowing drivers to access social media, music, and apps through the iDrive controller. The 2014 X5 offers a choice between Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen's premium audio systems. The 2014 X5's exterior resembles a BMW X5, with a focus on the front-end look, featuring twin circular headlights connected to the BMW kidney grille. The 2014 X5 boasts a sleeker rear-end design with sharper taillights, resulting in a more dynamic SUV compared to its bulky predecessor. The X5 boasts numerous safety features such as a head-up display, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian warning, city braking function, rear-view camera, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
