TVS Raider: The Epitome of Premium Commuter Motorcycling
The mass market
motorcycle segment, especially in India, is mostly sticking to one formula, which
is the tried and tested minimalistic design language. Bikes in this space are
usually distinguished by minor design and cosmetic variations. However, the new
125cc bike by TVS Motor has taken the market by a storm, introducing new
benchmarks for the competition to contend with.
The TVS Raider,
all thanks to its new design and attractive colour options, offers a unique
road presence, with some of the most advanced segment-first features. Firstly,
the segment used to have only one option in seat composition, which was fairly
justified, due to the price range of the segment. However, the Raider comes
with an option of a single seat as well as a more supportive and useful split
seat layout, with adequate padding. While the seat ensures practicality, it can
still accommodate a neat cubby storage underneath for all your essentials.
Wicked Performance
On paper, the
TVS Raider gets a 124.8cc three-valve architecture engine with characteristic
similar to the motor found on the Ntorq. However, the company states that that is
where the similarities end, as the Raider is the first motorcycle in the TVS
Motorcycle lineup to come with an integrated Starter Generator System that starts
and stops the engine automatically, cutting it off when idling and silently
restarting when ideal conditions are met.
The TVS Raider
also has Eco and Power Riding Modes. In real-life scenarios, the Eco mode
restricts the rev limiter which restricts the top speed, ultimately helping save
on fuel consumption, while the power mode enables the engine to rev freely all
the way up to 9000 rpm, just before the red line.
Wicked Tech
The large 5” TFT
screen with 1000 nits of brightness and IP69K water-resistant rating is one of
the top features of the TVS Raider. The console comes with a host of
segment-first features, starting with SmartXonnect – a Bluetooth enabled
multi-info system that allows the rider to pair their smartphone. It specialises
in offering turn-by-turn navigation along with call and text notifications. The
system is also programmed to re-route to the nearest petrol station when the
fuel-level hits reserve. The system also offers – a Lean Angle Mode, ride
telemetries, and crash alert.
Wicked Design
The bike
incorporates a sporty naked design with animalistic front LED lamps and a
unique rear LED taillamp, and a scooped-out sporty tank. TVS Motor has launched
the TVS Raider in four distinctive colour options – Fiery Yellow, Wicked Black,
Striking Red, and Blazing Blue. Additionally, the naked design of the bike, with
its well-designed chassis has kept the bike on the lighter side, coming up to
just 123kg.
A lightweight body, 10-litre fuel tank, and an ET-Fi enabled fuel-efficient engine help make the TVS Raider mileage per litre one of the best in its segment.
