Awards season is here: today’s Bafta nominations mean that we’re set to see a lot more of the supremely stylish Cate Blanchett ahead of the ceremony on February 14, especially if she wins a Golden Globe this weekend for her performance in Carol. But this time of year always throws up emerging names where acting talent is concerned, too. You may not have heard of half the up-and-coming actress below, but trust us, by the time the year is out you will have most likely watched many of their performances - and admired their style prowess too.

Saoirse Ronan

Strictly speaking, Saoirse (pronounced Seer-sha, in case you were wondering) is not new to the red carpet; the New York-born, Dublin-based actress has been quietly beavering away on films ever since she got her big break when, aged 12, she starred opposite Keira Knightley in Atonement.

Now 21, 2016 is set to be her year after her performance in Brooklyn has seen her nominated for awards at the Golden Globes, Baftas and SAGs. She's enlisted a new stylist and it shows - London-based Elizabeth Slatzman, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, is also the woman responsible for dressing Gwyneth Paltrow. Ronan and Saltzman are already proving to be a killer combination: Ronan is clearly a young woman who likes to experiment with silhouettes and colourways; she’s worn everyone from Emilia Wickstead to Burberry so far, always with an effortless approach.

Brie Larson

Prepare to see a lot more of Larson, for mid-January sees the release of Room, the film in which Larson plays a kidnapped mother. Her performance has earned her an award for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award, meaning she’ll be attending every pre-awards luncheon Hollywood has to offer.

For such events the 26-year-old calls upon stylist Christopher Campbell, who helps her secure a wardrobe of skirts and dresses in simple, classic shapes but made modern in bold hues.

Caitriona Balfe

Fans of TV series Outlander will already have Balfe on their radar. The 36-year-old plays Claire Beauchamp in the hit show, and is looking to add a Golden Globe to her trophy cabinet – not bad for a model-turned-actress.

The Dublin-born beauty used to be a regular on the international catwalks, walking frequently for luxury fashion houses Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton during her twenties. Her model poise certainly stands out on the red carpet: just check out her stance at last year’s SAG Awards in London label Solace.
