Arab world's next 'Fashion Star'
New reality show stylishly searches for the Arab world's next 'Fashion Star'
A new fashion "show" is about to hit our TV screens next month. Dubai One will broadcast a new reality series based on the original American version "Fashion Star."
Filmed in both Dubai and Lebanon, 12 aspiring designers will compete for an intense 10 weeks, starting February 3, to win their own fashion line.
The contestants will each create new pieces for three industry experts to judge during a runway show, followed by an elimination round. Valued at $136,000, the winning collection will come to life and be made available to buy at the online retailer Namshi.

“This is a first-of-its-kind opportunity for elite young designers from various Arab countries to receive advice and guidance from international designer Reem Acra, alongside an outstanding team of designers including Hanaa Ben Abdesselem, a globally recognised Tunisian designer and Lancôme ambassador; Ramzi Tabiaat, creative director of Kuwait online retailer Al Oustoura; and a wide spectrum of fashion experts as guests on each episode,” says Sarah Jarman, director of Dubai One.
While contestants will be mentored and guided by the judges throughout the competition, the final vote during the elimination round all comes down to Lebanese couturier Reem Acra.
“We were looking for established designers, more than just amateurs.” says Jarman. “Some of them already have their own lines. This was an opportunity for them to grow and to be challenged. They are from a range of countries, showcasing the designers we have in the region – from the UAE, India, Bahrain and Morocco, for example. They are all young and between the ages of 20 and 30.”
