Your care for Organic Cotton sheets varies from standard cotton in different manners. There are some precautionary steps while washing, fading, ironing and storing organic fabric other than conventional cotton. We have listed them below in order to help you take care of your organic cotton bedsheets.

Washing Organic Bed Sheets
Mostly bedsheets shrink after washing. In the case of organic sheets they are non-shrinkable. So you do not need to buy bigger size. You should never overheat your garments, this is being said. Drying your clothes with high heat can cause shrinkage more than 4%. One has to be extra careful while drying organic sheets. Standard cotton fabric is usually treated with strong chemicals to minimize the shrinking effects of heat. Organic cotton is not chemically treated, so it is quite possible to shrink 10% of the fabric if heated highly.

It is suggested to hang to dry. In case of dryer you can use air dryer.

Color Fading
There are eco-friendly dyes which are as harmful as other dyes applied on standard cotton. It is recommended to never mix dark colors with the lighter ones for a few initial washes. To wash for the first time, add ΒΌ cup of vinegar when rinsing for the final time, this whelps set up color and resist bleeding or fading. During the first few washes while washing prints, it is advised to dry them inside out for the first few washes. This helps locking the colors for many years.

Durability of Organic Cotton

Organic cotton lasts for many years as they are not treated chemically like conventional cotton.

Bleach

Never use chlorine bleach on fabrics of natural color. Chlorine bleach fades the natural color of cotton hence weaken the fiber strength of the cotton.

Using Tide
Detergents like Tide are harsh chemicals. Tide is so strong that a previous waste of the powder in the washing machine can harm the sheets. Before washing your organic sheets it is advised to rinse the washing machine with some other mild detergent or Woolite.

Ironing organic cotton sheets

Ironing, if done in a proper manner it can make a big difference. Thicker cotton, needs more heat to iron that is why the setting on irons are usually the hottest one. So the thinner cotton clothes can get burnt on a high iron setting. To check the heat level of an iron for your cotton sheets, you can test it on

You can check how well an iron setting will work by testing it on an unnoticeable part of the fabric.
Another alternative is to increase the heating of the iron gradually and adjust to the level where you get the best results.

Packing/Storing Cotton Sheets
Whether you fold your clothes in a drawer or simply hang them in the cupboard, packing and storing does not harms the bed sheets unless they come in contact with moisture or an odour. To keep the clothing dry and fresh a simple solution is to keep a bag of chalk in the cupboard.

Conclusion
Organic cotton has a different treatment to standard cotton, from manufacturing to usage. There are significant care instructions between these two cotton types. The color, cut and weave of organic cotton fabrics are affected by the way they are treated. Hence, we at SolarGanix, are passionate about our mission to manufacture the finest organic cotton bed sheets for you, keeping the above usage and care in mind.
