Bureau of Indian Standards

The BIS Act 2016 formed the National Standard Body of India for the continuous growth of the operations of standardized, labelling, and quality management systems of commodities and things associated with or supplementary.

Via Standardization, accreditation, and evaluating, BIS has provided identifiable and significant benefits to the country's economy in a variety of ways, including creating safe, trustable quality products, reducing consumer health effects, helping to promote the exchange of goods and services as an alternative, and controlling variety reproduction, among other things.

The goal of BIS is to analyze specific products while they're in the exploratory and observation stages. BIS maintains eight central facilities, four regional laboratory facilities, and three satellite research labs throughout India. BIS Registration is encouraged by the Indian government for the reasons listed:

·         BIS Certification ensures quality.

·         The BIS Accreditation protects the public's health.

·         BIS Accreditation protects consumers against dangerous items.

·         BIS Certification instils trust in customers.

What is the BIS Trademark Registration Scheme?

Through over 26500 licences representing almost 900 items, the BIS Registered Products Scheme is among the biggest in the world. It enables the company to use the widely recognized ISI Mark on its commodities, certifying that the goods are fresh and safe. The BIS Registered product system also has a Foreign Manufactures Certification System, allowing foreign manufacturers to be licenced using the BIS standard mark.

What are the Advantages of BIS Accreditation for Indian Manufacturers?

About 500 BIS Registration numbers with over 50 Indian specifications have been obtained in over 40 countries. It is critical for the business to get BIS Accreditation since it provides the essential benefits:—

Ensure that quality standards are met.

For all manufacturers, BIS offers a comprehensive approach to compliance monitoring execution. Organizations with a BIS certification are required to manufacture their items to a specified quality. BIS investigative officials do surprise inspections to the location where the manufacturing is generally carried out. It allows the BIS to keep an eye on the manufacturing plants for product standards and quality.

Give the product a sense of genuineness.

A product that does not have accreditation standards may be instantly taken off the market, but it will never gain the customer's confidence or reputation. Products that aren't recognized are prone to poor efficiency and may pose a health concern. Regrettably, the majority of end-users are unaware of such information.

On the other hand, BIS certified goods did not disappoint in this regard, promising excellent productivity and unrivalled dependability. Among the most major benefits of BIS registration is that it allows you to keep track of payments.

Reducing the risk to the environment

BIS certification includes 900 different categories of items, some of which are highly hazardous to the environment. Electronics, in particular, pose a significant environmental and health concern. BIS has made several steps in this regard, including establishing a defined process for making such things to reduce environmental risk.

Furthermore, according to BIS's mandated rules, the usage of certain materials and products is forbidden. As a result, it is critical in establishing the quality standard for safety and environmental protection in the manufacturing industry.

Quality Assurance Testing in the Lab

BIS has included state-of-the-art labs in various sections of the nation because it focuses on quality standards. These laboratories are created to assess the integrity of a wide range of items. The reviewing officials carefully choose only a few materials from the registrations equipment during the on-site examination and submit them to the laboratory for testing.

The goods will be returned together with the test result after it has been approved. Even though this procedure may appear to be time-consuming, it is critical for ensuring good quality.

Product Technical Specifications

This section discusses the technical specifications of the goods that are available for lab testing. The data that the producer must supply is the product's manufacturing specifics, such as:

·         The layout of the PCB.

·         A diagram of the schematic.

·         User's Guide.

·         List of Crucial Elements

Others

·         Proof of receipt of an online file upload.

·         A letter of authorization from the president, or an applications approved by the CEO.

·         If the producer is situated outside the nation, a declaration and commitment for the designated Indian agent and evidence of identification of the person submitting the declaration.

·         You are taking on a project for test results.

·         Original test report(s) from the stated laboratory, not older than one month, displaying all of the applicable category's requirements

·         Form VI and VII

The BIS registration processes would need around 30-35 days to complete, including 15-20 days for examination and 10-15 days in BIS Data processing.

What Kinds of BIS Registration Strategies are all there?

The product's BIS Registration is divided into many sorts of strategies, which are as follows:

Standard Operating Procedure for just a Domestic Manufacturing

The applicant must submit the BIS Registration statement, as well as the required papers and payments. After completing the application, a BIS inspector conducts an assessment of the materials at the plant, and an independent research conclusion is made up. Where its sample process is suitable, BIS Registration is issued if everything goes smoothly. BIS Accreditation is approved within four months after the application's acceptance.

Guidelines for Domestic Manufacturing.

In the streamlined approach, the application provides test results of the samples from the authorized laboratory to the BIS inspector and the applications for BIS Certification. If the test result is acceptable, the BIS officer will inspect the plant and issue a registration certificate between 30 days of the BIS Application for registration being submitted with the requisite test results.

Excluding the following items, the streamlined method applies towards issuing the licenses in All India First licensing instances and for all commodities:

·         Products that require clearance from another legislative authority, such as cylinders, valves, concrete, and so on.

·         All items in which a BIS license is granted based on factory examination.

·         Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) and Packaged Natural Mineral Water (PNMW) are two types of packaged drinking water (PNMW).

Eco Mark Scheme

The Eco Mark Scheme is a certification program for environmentally friendly products. BIS also issues licenses to environmentally sustainable items via a specific system known as the ECO Mark Scheme, categorizing all ecological goods according to Indian Standards' fundamental standards.

Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme.

Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme is a program that certifies overseas companies. The ISI mark is explicitly developed for international applications or producers and is under a specialized procedure for six months. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) launched the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS) in the year 2000 to allow abroad clients or overseas companies to use the Certified Mark on their goods. The foreign manufacturer must establish a regional office in India with the necessary approvals before appointing an agent in India.
