The renovation of the bathroom must comply with the hygienic-sanitary requirements laid down in the Ministerial Decree of 5 July 1975; it provides that bathrooms and technical rooms must have a minimum height of 2.40 meters and sufficient ventilation of the rooms.

There are also technical and hygienic standards provided for in the individual municipal building regulations; they usually indicate the minimum size of the room (approximately 3.5 square meters for the first bathroom and 2 square meters for the secondary ones); therefore there is no absolute freedom of design but it is necessary to comply with the technical standards provided for the bathroom.
