In this blog, we are going to cover the basics of the IELTS speaking test and we will give you an idea about the proper test format.
IELTS Speaking
IELTS Speaking is typically divided into three parts. Let’s discuss the format of each of the individual parts.
IELTS Speaking Part 1:
Speaking Part 1 is like a PI which lasts for around 4 to 5 minutes. In this part, you will have to introduce yourself and then have to answer the personal questions about your experiences and your life as asked by the examiner. Think of it as a brief interaction with someone you just came across. You will have to respond precisely to what your examiner asks you.
IELTS Speaking Part 2:
In part 2 of your speaking test, you will be given a topic and some sub-points that you need to cover. You will be given a minute to prepare your response and then you will have to speak for 2 minutes on the given topic. Your examiner can also ask some cross questions based on your response once you are finished with your response.
IELTS Speaking Part 3:
The third part in the speaking test is more like a discussion where you will have a conversation with the examiner about the same or similar issue that you were given in part 2. In this part, the questions will be asked in a manner that your response requires your opinion on the given subject.
For instance, if in Part 2 you were asked to describe the happiest moment of your life. In Part 3, they could ask you: “What according to you is important for leading a happy, fulfilled life?”
