Most people think about tea immediately they think about Britain and especially afternoon tea that has come to be known as high tea as we call it today. Anyone who visits England should make it a point to enjoy high tea proper served with Victorian era crockery and you will get the real feeling of a special occasion. Locals enjoy the relaxing environment and the ambience that goes with this custom that is said to have originated somewhere during the eighteenth century. You can relax and enjoy this tea which will have more meaning if you do it with someone special.
    
The good news is that you don’t have to be in London to enjoy high tea since you can just do it in the comfort of your own house, especially if you want to entertain some guests. There is no better way to entertain and satisfy your visitors than using this special custom that has spread to all parts of the world from the days of its inception with the Duchess of Bedford.    

Understanding a high tea: The term high tea simply refers to what other people could call a meal tea. This is because the tea is served with light meals and it is normally served in the late afternoons between 5 and 6 pm. While that is the ideal timing, you should not feel bound because you can also serve it during your preferred timings. 

Setting up the party: You want to give your invitees a perfect experience and, as such, you need to ensure that you food setting is superb and attractive to say the least. You may want to serve your pastries and sandwiches in special trays such as silver or anything as close to that which you may have and for the tea ensure that you have the best china. You also want to avoid using the every day mugs because you remember this is not coffee we are serving here. Look for special teacups that have been designed in fascinating styles and while at it, try and ensure they are polished to the last detail. Don’t forget to also get the beast teapots, milk pitchers and sugar bowls since they will enhance the entire experience.   

Party etiquette: You must put your best foot forward when it comes to etiquette especially if you are the guest at a high tea party. Courtesy of the highest order needs to be observed with works like please and thing you dominating especially when you are asking for a favor. Every guest should avoid slurping the tea or making loud noises while chewing and also, remember there is a civilized way o stirring the tea so that you don’t make any noise.   

Serving suggestions: There is really no restriction regarding what foods you serve to accompany the high tea at home. You may want to follow the old custom and serve Orange Pekoe Tea or just about any other. Only remember to provide your invitees with sugar, milk and lemon so that guests do their own blending according to their taste. You could serve simple snacks such as egg salad, sandwiches, smoked salmon, cookies, cakes and any other sweets your guests will enjoy.
