Is your dog suffering from itching and other types of skin diseases all the time? Is it having problems in digesting the food? Then it is very likely to have developed a food allergy and needs effective treatment as itching, diarrhea, sneezing, skin inflammations, etc are the common symptoms of food allergies. You will find your dog to be always ill tempered and behaving furiously if it constantly keeps on facing such health issues for a prolonged period.

A dog’s digestive system is  unlike a human being’s digestive system and faces a lot of difficulties in digesting food that consist of artificial ingredients. Thus, you need to select the right food for your dog while purchasing from a supermarket or specialty pet food store. Foods which are easy to digest and do not provoke allergies are quite essential to be included in the diet to cure the allergies they are suffering from. Intake of such foods will definitely bring an observable development in their health and will revive their cheerful side in a short span of time.

This sounds like an over simplification, and in fact many dogs are allergic to allergens in the environment rather than their food. But remember dogs are carnivores and should mostly eat meat, not the massive amount of grains in most dog food manufactured by corporations.

Hypoallergenic dog food is touted as "being made to completely suit the digestive system of dogs". But this is not always the case.  It is said to be used to feed the dogs instead of the regular food if you want your dog to become completely cured of the allergies soon.  What it usually is made of is foods (meat and vegetables) that your dog isnt likely to have eaten before, so its likely that it wont have formed a reaction to the new food, at least initially.

You will have to spend a little more if you go for hypoallergenic food rather than the normal food but you can expect to get positive outcomes within 2 to 3 months of time, if your dog is allergic to an ingredient in your current dog food. The idea is to choose a good brand while buying hypoallergenic food as it will comprise of the following aspects  which will lead to speedy recovery of dog food related dog allergies:

  • Hypoallergenic food is highly digestible for dogs as it is composed to work with the natural digestive system in dogs. Ideally, only pure and original ingredients are used to make the foods that do not cause allergies..
  • It does not contain any artificial or artificially preserved element which may be difficult to digest for dogs.
  • It does not consist ingredients like beef, chicken, fish, corn, soy, wheat, yeast, etc. that MIGHT lead to allergies in dogs. NOTE - you should have your dog tested against these food types by a dog allergist to learn which specific protein the dog is allergic to.
  • As it is devoid of any chemical element which is bad for skin, it can noticeably reduce the skin problems in dogs.
  • It consists of antioxidants that restrict the harmful cells from forming into tumors. It is totally free of ingredients like Lactose and Gluten which can cause abdominal damage in dogs.

So with a dog that has a sensitive stomach that you suspect is allergic to a common food ingredient ... it is always worthwhile trying an exclusion diet first, or having them tested for specific food allergies before putting them on an expensive so called hypoallergenic food.

If your dog is actually allergic to a common ingredient, then solving its allergy will involve avoiding the regular foods and keep the dogs away from them. Make them eat only hypoallergenic food from now onwards, if you truly seek to prevent the allergies they are suffering from.. They will always remain physically fit and strong.
