What is Medical Arm Boards?
They are OR table accessories that are attached to OR tables to support patients' arms during surgery. This may sound very trivial, but it is actually an important piece of equipment as most things are in the operating room. Proper placement and proper type of medical arm boards can make any surgery easier if done right and wrong if it is complicated. There are many different types of armboards on the market today. This post will help identify which style of armboard will suit your needs as well as ensure that it fits your current table. Here at Mid Central Medical we have designed and listened to our clients. Each armboard we manufacture has been requested by our customers and has a unique requirement.
Drop Latch Medical Arm boards
Drop latch style armboards are our most common and time proven and tested. As the name suggests, it connects to the OR table rail with a drop style lock. Just grab the lock rail, lock on top of the side rail, reduce space and release the drop lock to secure the rail. Use the lever at the end of the board to adjust the position of the medical arm boards. It has a gear casting that is cast from specially crafted material that is guaranteed to reduce broken teeth on the gear that adjusts the location of the armboard. We have many different options on this style.
Radiolucent Medical Arm boards
The radiolucent armboard clamp is securely to the OR table side rail with a knob facing down. It also adjusts in height to match the thickness of the table pad and is locked by rotating with a separate clamp. This armboard is very easy to c-arm if necessary. Because this OR clamps positively to the table rails, it will not slide on the Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg positions as well.
Underpad Style Medical Arm boards
The underpad style armboard is flat board-shaped to slide under the pad on a table. There is a large section of material that slides under the pad and is placed according to the weight of the patient. The armboard is suspended from the edge of the table. Whatever conditions are desired, they can be switched on. Ensure that the bulk of this board is under the patient's torso. Available in standard 6 "width or 13.25" width. These work great for imaging tables and the extra elaborate style is used in vascular facilities.
Pads for Medical Arm boards
The width here is the width, thickness and length of the armboard pad. Make sure the one you choose is compatible with the armboard you choose. They are held in place with Velcro.

They will keep your surgical arm boards off the floor, safe from non-essential handling and bumping, and also nearby for any case. Never search for the missing armboard again.
