How to Obtain More Storage Space
Looking to add more storage space to
your home? We have some tips.
Whether you
live in a luxurious condo or a tiny apartment, storage space will probably become an
issue sooner or later. We all have Christmas or Halloween decorations, toys and
memories from our childhood, or maybe fancy kitchen appliances we only use two-to-three
times a year. Finding a suitable place for everything is often a hassle, but if
you take a look at our list you may find some clever ways to take maximum advantage
of your space.
Floating shelves
Floating
shelves are ideal when it comes to storage. If you are looking for an “out of
the box” idea, try floating bookcases – they look very futuristic and, at
the same time, give you a few inches of storage space underneath.
Ottomans
Ottomans aren’t
used not only for their seating purposes. Storage ottomans or benches may be a great purchase if you are looking for
ways to maximize you storage space.
Try
rethinking your whole cupboard organization. If you
have some unused space in your kitchen cabinets, for example, you can fill it
up with those Christmas decorations. Yes, you probably won’t use them
only in the kitchen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t store them there for the
time being.
Cover it up
You can use
a curtain to hang on your walls in order to hide unappealing storage space or
you can even dress up your sink to conceal pipes or cleaning supplies
you keep underneath.
Under the bed
You bed
probably is your biggest piece of furniture, so making the most of it sounds
reasonable. You can use bed risers to add several inches of space under the bed,
where you can store shoes, boxes, books or whatever you don’t use every day.
Fancy hampers
You
shouldn’t use hampers only for dirty clothes. If you buy a few fashionable ones
and spread them around your apartment you will benefit from extra storage space
and spruce up your rooms at the same time.
Storage boxes above cabinets
The space
above your cabinets is often unused. Make the best of it by storing some boxes
over them. Pick some colorful or elegant ones to fit with the overall design of
the room.
Slide out storage
A slide-out storage tower is ideal for the kitchen – not only does
it give you more storage space, it also fills the annoying gap between your
fridge and counter.
Hang a pegboard
Pegboards aren’t only for garages
anymore. You can
hang one above your desk to create an inspiration board or you can place them
in your closet or pantry, to help you keep things more organized.
With minor
investments and a little bit of imagination you can easily obtain more storage
space without having to throw away your beloved belongings. However,
uncluttering your home is highly beneficial from time to time. Maybe you should
give it a try next time you’re deciding where to store those roller blades you
haven’t used in 7 years. By uncluttering you can free
up some much needed storage space.
