How To Install Garmin Express Updates For Your Garmin Devices

Garmin Express is the software required to install Garmin maps and software updates on your devices. The updates are released several times a year and should be installed for the best experience of Garmin Devices.

Map Updates - Map updates help you stay updated with the latest routes, streets, and locations of the map installed on your Garmin Navigation device. Map updates can take a bit longer to get installed as the map files are large and consist of detailed information.

Software Updates - Software updates are to improve the performance of the Garmin device by making changes to the operating system files. These updates are comparatively smaller in size and hence takes less time. Once the software updates are downloaded, you need to reboot your device to finish the install.

Download Garmin Express and Install Updates

Before installing Garmin Map or software updates, make sure you have Garmin Express installed on your device. After that you can follow the steps below to get started:

• Download Garmin Express on your device from garmin.com.

• Now you need to connect your Garmin device to the computer. Use the USB cable that came along with your device or any other compatible USB.

• Enter Garmin Express in the Windows search bar and double-click on the Express icon to open the program. If you are using Mac, go to Finder and open Express from the App folder.

• When the Garmin Express app opens, select your Garmin device if your device is already added to the app. Otherwise, click on Add a Device option and follow the steps on your screen. 

• You will see a green dot on Garmin Express if it recognizes the device. 

• In case you are adding a new device, then you will need to select if you want to replace the added device or keep both. Click on Yes if you want to replace the added device with the new one. Click No in case you have two same models of Garmin devices. 

• You will see the updates for your device.

• Select Install or Install All. you can check the details of each update and install them individually. However, it’s better that you install all of them at once to ensure all updates are installed completely.

• Now select Accept and then Continue.

• Wait as the installation takes place. Once the Garmin Express updates are installed,  you’ll be prompted to Restart your device. 

• Restart your PC when prompted. 

• After the device is restarted, Garmin Express will start installing the Maps updates.

 Make sure you won’t disconnect or shut down your PC before installing the complete updates. Interrupting the updates will cause issues with your Garmin device and you might not be able to access it ever again.
