Image Whether buying home or outdoor settings, you should carefully consider the type of leather you choose. With its luxury look and supple feel, leather home and outdoor settings will add a luxurious touch to your living space. Luckily, despite its luxurious look, leather doesn’t require the constant maintenance and care like other materials do.

Leather furniture is easy to clean and maintain. So if you follow the main cleaning rules, you can maintain your leather home and outdoor settings with ease. It is true that is a very forgiving material, but do not go beyond the limits. While leather furniture is expensive, it is an investment that pays off as it can last a lifetime just with some easy and simple care techniques from time to time.

Everyday Cleaning And Care

  • Wipe down any leather furniture with a white, clean, soft, and dry cloth once in a week. When in dusty environment, wipe down your furniture frequently.

  • Vacuum your leather setting from time to time, just like any other upholstery material.

  • Luckily, you can remove a build up dirt with a damp and soft cloth. After that, wipe down with dry cloth.

Grease Stains

  • Grease stains cannot be removed only with damp cloth. For this purpose, use a dry and soft cloth. Press down to blot up all grease from the leather surface.

  • To get rid of all greasiness, use cornstarch or talcum powder and sprinkle on the leather surface. Let it sit for a while and after that clean it with a brush with soft bristles. If needed, repeat the process a couple of times, but whatever you do, DO NOT rub the surface. You can use this way of cleaning on fabric surfaces too.

Water Stains

  • The best way to clean water stains is to blot with a soft cloth immediately after the spill.

  • If the spill occurred a while ago, use a soft damp cloth and gently start wiping the stain with circle motions in all directions. DO NOT scrub.

Ink Stains

Ink stains on leather are the hardest to remove. Depending on the type of ink and the stain severity, you may need to call a professional company to clean the stain.

  • Small marks, like the ones from pen can disappear on their own after a while. You can also try cleaning them by gently wiping with a mild soap solution.

  • Unfortunately, large ink stains need to be treated professionally. Do not use alcohol or some other strong solution on your leather furniture, as you can damage the colour and the upper layer of the leather.
